Lydia's Story of Gratitude May 7, 2017
"I was asked to share what I'm grateful for by my beautiful friend
Vicky. Of course, the first thing that came to mind was my health,
family, home and friends. I'm so grateful for those things and for so
many little moments each day.

However, what I'd like to share is a piece of my life. I grew up in a
family of abuse - verbal, alcoholic, drugs and sexual. It was all around me. Every day. My whole life. But the magical thing was, it never touched me physically. My siblings lived and died because of their abuse and addictions. They passed it along to their children - some who have died because of the same reasons. But the last of 4 children, the daughter of an alcoholic, sister of alcoholics, drug addicts and sex abuser has made it out safely. I have chosen or been given a life free of all those things. I have never had the life struggles of addictions of my parents or siblings. I have a clean life and I have raised my children with love and honesty about my past.

I always feel protected and blessed.

I was the lucky one.

And for that, I am the most grateful."

Love, Lydia

I have been writing a daily blog about what I am grateful for over a year now. When family crisis hit I stopped blogging for almost a week. A few readers said, "Hey, we miss what you're grateful for." So, no matter the day or how upside life happens to be, I pause to remember the things that bring my heart gratitude.

This winter while out for dinner with friends, a new friend asked if I ever thought of a guest blog. I didn't but thought, what an awesome idea. I spread the word to The Making of Faith blog on Instagram and Facebook. The idea unfolded. Today, I present to you my first guest writer, Lydia Santoro sharing her moving story of gratitude. In our chaotic, sometimes brass world, it might be easy to lose sight of the beauty and gifts that have been given to each of us. Perhaps Gratitude Monday will inspire a little more joy.

Lydia, thank you for being the first to share!  If you'd like to write about what you're grateful for, please email me at [email protected]. You're invited to be my guest on Gratitude Monday.
